Home Theater Design

When most people think of interior design for a home what comes to mind is the living room, master bedroom or other major rooms in the house. The newest craze is home theater interior design. Home theater design, however, encompasses many, many aspects and can be quite elaborate.

To begin with, when designing a home theater, the focus is on the TV or DVD player and a set of speakers, the best of which are a surround sound system. When purchasing the different components for the room it is important to know that many people who sell electronics will feel that for a true home theater design, high quality sound equipment and projectors are needed, other than that it is merely a TV room.

The room should be designed around the components of the system. Much of the focus will be on the where the projector and screen will be placed or the TV. With those pieces in place, the next focus will be the surround sound system. Knowing exactly where to place these pieces is essential for the best sound and feeling of the movie. Having a simple speaker in front of the room will not be the same as strategically places several speakers around the room and having become of the décor.

The home theater room design should primarily, though, begin with the space itself. The room should resemble, as closely as possible a movie theater. An enclosed room with minimal outside light and will offer the best sound quality. To add a true theater feel, adding curtains to the walls can cut down on disruptive noises, this also includes a carpeted floor, instead of wood.

A major room design element is lighting. Having a lot of light can cause glare on the screen, while a completely dark room can put added strain on the eyes. The answer to this is to install a dimmer to the lighting system, this way the amount of light can be controlled and offer just the right amount of lighting.

Beyond the essentials the entertainment elements are also important. Adding movie memorabilia such as posters and old time pieces add to the ambiance. Including a popcorn machine offer the smell of a true theater, while a drink station or candy machine can minimize the need for leaving the room during a movie, thus disrupting the feel of the experience. Most home theater design will also take into consideration the seating and make sure that cup holders and consoles are integrated into them.
